This card, Shatter Assumptions, would benefit a black control deck that aims to disrupt the opponent's hand and disrupt their strategy. While it can be situationally useful, there are better options available such as Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek which provide more versatile hand disruption. Shatter Assumptions may not see much play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks due to its limited scope compared to other hand disruption cards available.
