Introduction

At this point, we have all heard the phrase "With great powers come great responsibilities" at least a few dozen times.

Marvel's Spider-Man, the Universes Beyond set, brought the iconic Peter Parker to Magic: The Gathering, which is now officially a part of the wide Spider-Verse. Known for the many movies, novels, comic books, and animated and real-life series that tell his origin story, Peter Parker came straight from the streets of New York. Now, he'll lead our casual Commander pods.

In this article, you'll find two lists. The first one plays many legendary creatures that become cheaper because of Amazing Spider-Man. The second one, in turn, plays many legendary artifacts and is more casual and fun. Are you ready to meet this commander? So, let's go!

Commander: Peter Parker

Our amazing commander has two sides. We can cast whichever one we want when we play him.

Peter Parker is a very harmless creature, as he is a 0/1. He also creates a 2/1 Spider token with reach when he enters. However, just like in the comic books, Peter Parker turns into the Amazing Spider-Man (our real commander) if we use his other ability.

This hero has vigilance and reach and lets us cast any legendary spell that's one or more colors for a new web-slinging cost of Magic Symbol gMagic Symbol wMagic Symbol u.

In practice, this means that we can cast an Avacyn, Angel of Hope with Amazing Spider-Man on our board if we return a face-down creature in play to our hand and pay three mana.

Please note that this effect doesn't work with creatures like Kozilek, Butcher of Truth because this legendary card doesn't cost colored mana.

Main List

If there is one thing MTG players like, it's playing gigantic creatures for less than usual or even for no mana at all. Just think about how many decks with Kaalia of the Vast or Jodah, the Unifier you've faced. This is definitely not a new phenomenon.

Because Amazing Spider-Man's ability mentions legendary spells in particular, this first list plays some of the coolest and strongest Bant Magic Symbol gMagic Symbol wMagic Symbol u legendary cards. With them, you'll mow down your opponents in no time.

Ramp and Creating mana

There are two very interesting things about this commander that we need to mention now:

1. Even if we cast him as Peter Parker, we still need to pay four mana to transform him. So, we'll need more mana afterward.

2. To cast a card through web-slinging, we have to return to our hand a creature we control. What better way to do this than to return creatures that need to tap to create mana?

Inga and Esika, Cryptolith Rite, and Enduring Vitality definitely stand out, as they let you tap your creatures to create mana of any color. If you enjoy this type of strategy, check out this Inga and Esika Commander Deck Tech!link outside website

Besides these creatures, we'll play spells that get lands for us, like Three Visits, Nature's Lore, Farseek, and Cultivate.

Chulane, Teller of Tales and Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait will put more lands in play and also draw extra cards.

One of Galadriel, Light of Valinor's abilities creates three green mana when another creature enters play under our control. Ideally, we should cast Old Gnawbone with web-slinging, but it has a lot of potential in this list, particularly to create treasures.

The scary Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger makes our lands create twice as much mana and also disrupts our opponents when they try to create mana.

Besides creating mana and gaining life, The Great Henge draws and puts a +1/+1 counter on our non-token creatures. That's a lot of value for just a single artifact!

Card Draw

The more cards we draw, the better we'll be. Luckily for us, our masked commander is in the best colors for card draw.

Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur gives us a big advantage because it draws seven cards at the beginning of the end step, but, at the same time, it also disrupts our opponents.

Reki, the History of Kamigawa is a must in nearly all decks centered around legendary cards. The fearsome Nezahal, Primal Tide draws cards for you whenever an opponent casts a noncreature spell.

Protection

This deck plays many giant creatures that hit hard and will definitely stand out on any board.

So, we just had to add protection. The cards below are one of the most important parts of this list.

Storvald, Frost Giant Jarl gives ward 3 to all our other creatures and can change a target creature's base power and toughness until the end of the turn.

Sometimes, the best answer is not letting our opponents answer at all. That's why this list plays Dragonlord Dromoka, which prevents the opponents from casting cards on your turns.

Unlike Flawless Maneuver, Teferi's Protection, and Heroic Intervention, which usually just protect or defend, Akroma's Will can shine in attacks and destroy our opponent's life points.

The classic Lightning Greaves is better on our commander. After all, he will also attract removals, and we don't want to lose him.

Plan B!

However, if you're just a bit unlucky and your opponents seem to have everything, no biggie. We have a plan B! Or, should we say plans B, C, and D?

When the matter is playing creatures for anything but their real costs, these three legendary cards are precisely what you need!

By the way, Kodama of the East Tree can put any permanent in play, including lands and even mana rocks, as long as they cost the same or less than it.

Relevant Creatures

Let's go through a few useful creatures that will add just a tiny bit of chaos to your matches.

Logically, since we play Vorinclex and Jin-Gitaxias, we also had to play the white praetor!

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, a great enemy (or ally) to decks centered around creature tokens, will disrupt our opponents's boards considerably.

Another phyrexian in this list is Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus, which doubles our creatures's power and toughness in each combat. Koma, World-Eater and Koma, Cosmos Serpent will fill our board with 3/3 Koma's Coil tokens. The Cosmos Serpent version can also use these tokens to protect itself or tap enemy permanents.

Alternative List

While our main list plays a few game changers and creatures that are very complicated to deal with, our second list plays many legendary artifacts so that we can cast them with web-slinging. This option is a bit weaker and more casual but is just as fun.

Let's see some of our artifacts:

This list also includes a few cool legendary creatures so that we can play them with Amazing Spider-Man's ability, like Absolute Virtue, Venat, Heart of Hydaelyn, and The Wandering Rescuer.

Final Words

Peter Parker, aka Amazing Spider-Man, is really amazing.

He is also in great colors if what you want is a consistent, powerful list. The only real problem is deciding what makes the cut and what doesn't.
