As a mini‑set, it may not have left a strong impression on Pauper, but new cards can still make a difference in established decks or create archetype variants.Cards like Giant's Boulder are solid inclusions, while others fall into the experimental side. Smaug, the Great Calamity in a Ramp list provides removal and a dragon that dodges Cast Down in the same slot, and Moment of Glory benefits go‑wide decks that use looting effects to generate advantage. Below are five Pauper decklists featuring The Hobbit!Five Pauper Decklists with The HobbitSmaug RampThere are advantages to playing Smaug, the Great Calamity in a Big Mana or Ramp deck. Besides the 5/5 Flying body that dodges Galvanic Blast, being legendary also dodges Cast Down, the format's common removal for threats. Smaug provides removal in a creature slot, and five damage, even at five mana, answers most problems in the Metagame.We could also test Beorn, Reluctant Host in this list, but with only 16 lands, we do not take advantage of its Adventure, and a 5/5 with Trample that dodges Cast Down does not seem worth replacing Avenging Hunter.Boulder TronGiant's Boulder is a Barrels of Blasting Jelly with the Scry 2 that justifies Candy Trail in Monster Tron lists. Instead of a direct replacement, I opted to keep a 4‑2 split between the new card and the old one to maintain color consistency.With mana filtering, this seems like a good opportunity to test Gandalf, Wandering Wizard, a legendary 4/5 that is easy to cast through Tron or Cascade, and whose activated ability protects itself from removal while providing card advantage. Perhaps Gandalf deserves a reactive list, but Monster Tron tries to have better topdecks than other archetypes, and he offers value in grindy matches.Izzet SerpentineI considered including Gandalf and Smaug in an Izzet/Jeskai Control list, but that would be too much mana for traditional purposes. Confusticate and Bebother, on the other hand, fit with Serpentine Curve as a way to filter your hand and put pieces into the graveyard while interacting with the stack at the same time. I do not believe this will push the archetype to the top of the format, but it offers versatility in the late game.Boros BullyBoros Bully mixes looting mechanics with a go‑wide strategy using cheap creatures and Battle Screech. This combination makes Moment of Glory's Flashback one of the payoffs after setting up the board. Its ability, when cast from hand, interacts with creatures with Lifelink to make life harder for Aggro decks, making it worth including Sacred Cat and Outlaw Medic.Naya GatesSimilarly to Boros Bully, Moment of Glory benefits from creatures with Lifelink and turns multiple Sneaky Snacker into a more expressive clock if the game goes long.
