Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth (LOTR) will put Tolkien's famous and rich mythology in Magic: the Gathering cards bringing countless characters beloved by several generations of fans to Commander, Legacy and Modern (and for commons, Pauper).

Among these legendary characters, one of the most famous is Aragorn - who will become a legend in the game as well. Here we have a 4-mana creature (Magic Symbol wMagic Symbol uMagic Symbol rMagic Symbol g) with an excellent body for combat and that has an absurd synergy with multicolored spells, generating immense value with each spell cast.

Aragorn, the Uniter in Modern

In Modern, we have access to a wide variety of cards of two or more colors such as Wrenn and Six, for example, which when cast causes Aragorn to deal 3 damage to the opponent and give +4/+4 to a creature until the end of the turn.

A Mantis Rider can unleash three abilities at once, dealing 3 damage to the opponent, scrying 2, and creating a 1/1 human token. By casting Omnath, Locus of Creation Aragorn's four abilities will be triggered at once, generating tons of value.

However, one of the card's problems in this format is precisely Omnath itself, which ends up being a better option for decks with four or more colors.

Humans with Aragorn

But perhaps there is still a place for Aragorn in Modern. Humans is a deck that appears very little in the format, but that could make good use of the new card. Aragorn can populate the board with more humans, deal damage, generate card selection and increase the clock, in addition to being a 5/5 creature.

Aragorn, the Uniter in Commander

Here things get much more interesting. Aragorn is one of the few 4-color commanders in the format, and his colors open up an endless pool of possibilities.

Although there is no clear strategy to be used with this commander, the number of abilities this card has and the interactions it can provide are quite interesting. Even looking at the very set where Aragorn will be released, we can find great interactions, and even consider an LotR-themed deck with him as a Commander.

But there are cards that can generate even more value in an Aragorn-oriented deck.

Charms are a great option for this commander, but Boros Charm has a special place, being able to deal up to 7 damage to an opponent while creating a human token or even being used as a combat trick. And considering Aragorn's ability to cast green spells, this could be quite interesting to hit lethal commander damage.

Fallaji Wayfarer can trigger all of Aragorn's abilities and even lets you cast more creatures with convoke, triggering our Uniter's multiple times in a single turn.

Triggering Aragorn's best abilities with a ramp enchantment is utterly absurd.

In addition to activating Aragorn's red, green, and white abilities when cast, instead of creating 1/1 human tokens, Jinnie Fay makes you create 2/2 cats with haste or 3/1 dogs with vigilance.

Chulane turns your creatures into card advantage. This combined with Aragorn's second ability makes it even better.

Narset makes your creatures even more menacing, and the second trigger is a huge bonus.

Aragorn manages to make cards like Brainstorm, which is already quite strong, even more powerful.

Conclusion

Aragorn, the Uniter is pretty interesting for a four-colored creature. In Modern maybe he's overshadowed by his biggest rival Omnath, but in such a vast format I still believe there will be a place for both.

In Legacy and Vintage I don't see space for this card, since these formats have a very high-power level and the games are too fast for a creature that only starts working on turn 4 onwards.

On Commander, as demonstrated in the article, the sky is the limit with Aragorn - and there are still a multitude of cards that interact very well with this commander. As I mentioned before, at first, the strategy for this card may not seem so clear, but generating value on top of value each turn is already a valid strategy, and it has such good abilities that there are several viable strategies that can be implemented with it in a four-color Commander. There is also the possibility of adding it to a deck, not as a commander, but as a support creature.
