Introduction

The last set of the year is finally out. Reality Fracturelink outside website closes the current story arc and brings Jace Beleren's story to an end after 2 decades as one of the main characters in the multiverse. This set is also a collection of references to iconic characters, moments, and cards from the game, redesigned through Jace's "ideal" world. It includes versions in different colors and a "what if" angle that some fans have been waiting for since War of the Spark ended.

Actually impacting Timeless is no easy task. The most powerful format in Magic Arena includes cards banned even in Legacy, such as Strip Mine, Mana Drain, and Deathrite Shaman, as well as several powerful staples that came out in the last few years. Reality Fracture introduced some new options, most notably Eye of Ugin (which could boost Eldrazi decks), but a few other cards in this set could also find space in competitive settings.

Lands

This is the best card from this set for Timeless. Eye of Ugin was banned in Modern because it made Eldrazi decks nearly unbeatable, and it remains incredibly popular in Legacy to this day. With the right combination of lands, as in, with lands that allow it to create mana, such as Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth or even Petrified Hamlet, it effectively turns into 3 mana. Like so, it allows you to cast some of the biggest threats in this deck, particularly Sowing Mycospawn, a lot faster.

It probably will not turn Eldrazi lists into Tier 0 strategies, but it should push it several steps up.

Enlightened Confidant could be a decent source of card advantage for Boros Energy variants. After all, it works well with Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury, Guide of Souls, and Ocelot Pride. The Mardu version probably does not need it, particularly as it is also vulnerable to Orcish Bowmasters, but it may be worth a try because it meets Lurrus of the Dream-Den's companion demands.

Blue

This could become a sideboard staple.

Timeless is full of combos built around a key spell, and most of the time you can only win if you can stop your opponent's broken strategy while executing your own. It is natural to view Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun as a blue Voice of Victory or Vexing Bauble (useful to pay for Force of Will and Force of Negation), but Split Second also shuts down abilities, which could matter in specific situations, such as playing around an enemy Deathrite Shaman.

Theorist's Proxy looked better before Samut, Tyrant of Naktamun was revealed, but it may have an edge thanks to Flash. You can cast it in the opponent's turn and then cast Show and Tell / Reanimate on the following turn.

Black

This is an honorable mention. There aren't many Wishboards available in Timeless, and none of the ones we have cost 2 mana. Extrapolate the Impossible only works if you lean into redundancy, but it might find exactly what you need when two or more cards can do the same thing.

Hymn to Tourach was recently added to Timeless, and now "the best discard spell in history" is also coming to the format. Mind Twist can create plenty of non-games with an explosive hand, but it is in line with Timeless' absurd power level. I do not believe it will be a game changer, but it is still an efficient way to disrupt combo decks.

The most interesting question with this card will be how much it will impact (or not) Mind Twist in Legacy in the future, where it remains banned.

Red

Considering Splinter Twin is no longer relevant even in Modern, it is hard to imagine Timeless having room for it and combos with it. We should keep an eye on it in Historic, though.

Green

Protecting your lands from enemy Strip Mines while reusing your own every turn sounds fun. Marwyn, the Preserver can also survive Orcish Bowmasters and blocks some of the key creatures in the format reasonably well, not to mention that you can reuse it with Lurrus of the Dream-Den. As a bonus, it also protects the Dark Depths combo and lets you reuse it.

Multicolor

Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes is in the right colors to pay for Force of Will / Force of Negation and also turn fetch lands into extra draws with Jace's token. Two mana is reasonable. It has potential but does not look like an immediate staple.

Spell Pierce and Disfigure on the same card could be strong in the current meta, especially in these colors (Magic Symbol UMagic Symbol B). As a bonus, Theorix Charm also replaces itself in your hand and fills the graveyard for Reanimate or Treasure Cruise at the same time. It is worth a try.

Artifacts

This is an honorable mention. Karn, Argent Defender shuts down artifact-related ETBs and triggers, as well as creatures. It could be a headache for Affinity builds with Kappa Cannoneer, but it can't break a Tier-2 deck.
