About Gather Courage

Gather Courage, Instant, designed by Brian Despain first released in May, 2020 in the set Ravnica: City of Guilds and was printed exactly in 5 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 0.16.

A deck that focuses on creature token generation or has a wide board presence would benefit from using Gather Courage due to its convoke ability, allowing you to potentially cast it for free or at a reduced cost. However, there are better options like Giant Growth or Vines of Vastwood that provide similar effects with potential additional benefits, making them more versatile choices in most situations. Gather Courage could see play in specific token or convoke-focused decks, but may not be a top choice in more competitive or diverse deck builds.

If a creature you control has a mana ability with in the cost, activating that ability while casting a spell with convoke will result in the creature being tapped before you pay the spell’s costs. You won’t be able to tap it again for convoke. Similarly, if you sacrifice a creature to activate a mana ability while casting a spell with convoke, that creature won’t be on the battlefield when you pay the spell’s costs, so you won’t be able to tap it for convoke.

You can tap any untapped creature you control to convoke a spell, even one you haven’t controlled continuously since the beginning of your most recent turn.
