About Sudden Death

Sudden Death, Instant, designed by Dave Allsop first released in Oct, 2006 in the set Time Spiral and was printed exactly in 2 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 0.72.

This card, Sudden Death, would be beneficial in a control deck that focuses on disrupting the opponent's strategy by removing key creatures. While it has the advantage of split second, preventing opponents from responding with instant-speed spells or abilities, there are potentially better options like Fatal Push or Dismember that offer more flexibility or efficiency in dealing with threats. However, Sudden Death could still see play in specific metagames where -4/-4 is a significant enough reduction to handle prevalent threats.

Rules

03/19/21

If the resolution of a triggered ability involves casting a spell, that spell can’t be cast if a spell with split second is on the stack.

03/19/21

Players still get priority while a card with split second is on the stack; their options are just limited to mana abilities and certain special actions.

03/19/21

Split second doesn’t stop triggered abilities from triggering, such as that of Chalice of the Void. If one does, its controller puts it on the stack and chooses targets for it, if any. Those abilities will resolve as normal.

06/07/13

Casting a spell with split second won’t affect spells and abilities that are already on the stack.
