About Hooting Mandrills

Hooting Mandrills, Creature — ape, designed by Mike Bierek first released in Sep, 2014 in the set Khans of Tarkir and was printed exactly in 4 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 0.76.

This card, Hooting Mandrills, would benefit a deck that focuses on graveyard interaction and ramping up to play big creatures. It could fit well in a green-based Delve deck that utilizes cards like Satyr Wayfinder and Grisly Salvage to fill the graveyard and cast powerful spells for a reduced cost. However, there are potentially better options like Gurmag Angler or Tombstalker that offer similar abilities but with potentially more impactful bodies for the same cost. Overall, Hooting Mandrills could see play in specific graveyard-centric decks but may not be a top choice compared to other options available.

Rules

03/19/21

Because delve isn’t an alternative cost, it can be used in conjunction with alternative costs, such as flashback. It can also be used to pay for additional costs that include generic mana.

03/19/21

Delve doesn’t change a spell’s mana cost or converted mana cost. For example, Treasure Cruise’s converted mana cost is 8 even if you exiled three cards to cast it.

Because delve isn’t an alternative cost, it can be used in conjunction with alternative costs.

09/20/14

The rules for delve have changed slightly since it was last in an expansion. Previously, delve reduced the cost to cast a spell. Under the current rules, you exile cards from your graveyard at the same time you pay the spell’s cost. Exiling a card this way is simply another way to pay that cost.

09/20/14

You can’t exile cards to pay for the colored mana requirements of a spell with delve.
