About Hour of Need

Hour of Need, Instant, designed by Jesper Ejsing first released in May, 2014 in the set Journey into Nyx. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 1.36.

This card, Hour of Need, would be beneficial in a control deck that aims to remove multiple creatures from the board while also creating powerful flying threats. It can be particularly effective against decks with a lot of small creatures. However, there are potentially better options like Cyclonic Rift that offer more flexibility and impact for a similar cost. Hour of Need could still see play in certain metagames or strategies where the token creation is valuable, but it may not be a staple in competitive decks.

If such a spell is copied, and the effect that copies the spell allows a player to choose new targets for the copy, the number of targets can’t be changed. The player may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, the player can’t choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).

In a Commander game, if a commander is put into the command zone instead of being exiled by Hour of Need, its controller will still get a Sphinx token.

The mana cost and converted mana cost of strive spells don’t change no matter how many targets they have. Strive abilities affect only what you pay.
