About Soulflayer

Soulflayer, Creature — demon, designed by Seb McKinnon first released in Jan, 2015 in the set Fate Reforged Promos and was printed exactly in 4 different ways. It see play in 2 formats: Pioneer and Commander. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 1.59.

A deck that focuses on filling the graveyard with a variety of creature cards with powerful keywords like flying, first strike, double strike, deathtouch, etc., would benefit from including Soulflayer. This card can become a versatile and potent threat by leveraging the delve ability to gain multiple abilities from exiled creatures. While Soulflayer can be a strong inclusion in certain graveyard-centric strategies, there may be better options depending on the specific deck archetype and game plan, such as Tarmogoyf or Gurmag Angler, which offer consistent value without relying on exiling specific creature types. Ultimately, the decision to include Soulflayer in a deck should be based on how well it synergizes with the overall strategy and card pool.

Rules

03/19/21

You can exile cards to pay only for generic mana, and you can’t exile more cards than the generic mana requirement of a spell with delve. For example, you can’t exile more than seven cards from your graveyard to cast Treasure Cruise unless an effect has increased its cost.

01/24/20

If one of those creature cards has one or more variants of the listed keywords (for example, hexproof from white), this creature gains those specific variants.

11/24/14

Because delve isn’t an alternative cost, it can be used in conjunction with alternative costs.

11/24/14

Creature cards that have abilities that grant the listed keyword abilities to themselves won’t count. For example, exiling a Battle Brawler (a creature with “As long as you control a red or white permanent, Battle Brawler gets +1/+0 and has first strike”) with Soulflayer’s delve ability won’t cause Soulflayer to have first strike, even if you control a red or white permanent.

11/24/14

You can’t exile cards to pay for the colored mana requirements of a spell with delve.

11/24/14

You exile cards from your graveyard at the same time you pay the spell’s cost. Exiling a card this way is simply another way to pay that cost.
