Un mazo que se centre en controlar el tablero y eliminar criaturas oponentes se beneficiaría al usar Pestilence, ya que puede ayudar a mantener presencia en el tablero y presionar a los oponentes. Mientras que Pestilence puede ser una inclusión fuerte en ciertos mazos de control, hay otras cartas como Pyroclasm o Anger of the Gods que ofrecen efectos similares de limpieza de tablero a un costo menor, lo que las convierte en opciones potencialmente mejores dependiendo de la estrategia de mazo específica y del meta.
