Liliana, Death Mage is a powerful addition to a control or midrange deck that focuses on graveyard recursion and removal. While she provides value with her +1 ability to return creatures from the graveyard and can act as removal with her -3 ability, her ultimate ability of dealing damage based on the opponent's graveyard size can be game-ending in the right situation. However, in competitive Magic: The Gathering formats, Liliana, Death Mage may be overshadowed by more efficient planeswalkers like Liliana of the Veil or Liliana, the Last Hope, which offer more versatile and impactful abilities for their mana cost.

If the target creature is an illegal target by the time Liliana’s second ability tries to resolve, the ability won’t resolve. No player loses 2 life. If the target is legal but not destroyed (most likely because it has indestructible), its controller does lose 2 life.
