While there are other strong creature removal options in Magic: the Gathering, such as Carnage Tyrant or Questing Beast, Apex Altisaur's ability to repeatedly fight creatures can make it a solid choice in certain metagames where creature-heavy strategies are prevalent. Overall, Apex Altisaur could see play in specific decks that can support its high mana cost and take advantage of its unique abilities.
