The reason? The tight release schedule. The Lord of the Rings set will probably be the most hyped-up set of the year.

“Due to The Aftermath content coming about a month after March of the Machine, there will be no Alchemy set for March of the Machine. Instead, Alchemy efforts and excitement will continue to be focused on The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, which will be legal in Alchemy and Historic.”

The tight release schedule has been a problemlink outside website for WotC before, and fans have been reporting for a while now that when they're not celebrating a release, they're in spoilers season. However, players aren't that sad Alchemy won't be getting a release for this April/May set. Alchemy has long been a very problematic and polemic format, with some fans wishing it didn't exist at all. So, fans can rejoice: You'll have a break from Alchemy for two months, at least. It will unfortunately be back in time for Lord of the Rings.
