Archive Trap is vooral effectief in mill-decks, vooral als die kaarten gebruiken die tegenstanders dwingen hun bibliotheken te doorzoeken, zoals het ophalen van land of tutor-effecten. Decks die zijn opgebouwd rond blauwe controle- of combo-strategieën die de bibliotheek van een tegenstander kunnen manipuleren en tegelijkertijd kunnen profiteren van het trekken van kaarten en counterspreuken, zouden deze kaart waardevol vinden. Hoewel Archive Trap krachtig kan zijn, zijn er andere molenkaarten zoals Glimmering Angel of Mesmeric Orb die voor consistent frezen kunnen zorgen zonder dat een tegenstander zijn bibliotheek hoeft te doorzoeken, waardoor ze potentieel betrouwbaarder worden. Over het algemeen kan Archive Trap spel zien in specifieke meta's waar tegenstanders regelmatig hun bibliotheken doorzoeken, maar de effectiviteit ervan kan variëren op basis van de algemene strategie van het kaartspel en de prevalentie van zoekeffecten in het formaat.

A spell or ability causes a player to search their library only if it specifically contains the word “search” in its text. For example, if a spell or ability lets a player look at the top four cards of their library and do something with one of those cards, that’s not a search.
