Command Decision zou het beste passen bij een wit midrange-, control- of Commander-deck dat flexibel nut wil – een grote dreiging verwijderen wanneer dat nodig is of een kaart trekken wanneer verwijdering niet relevant is – maar de beperking tot wezens met een kracht van 4 of hoger maakt het onbetrouwbaar, en omdat het een tovenarij is, wordt het minder efficiënt. In de meeste formaten zijn betere opties onder meer 'Swords to Plowshares' voor onvoorwaardelijke verwijdering van één mana, 'Path to Exile' wanneer het geven van basisland aan de tegenstander acceptabel is, en 'Get Lost' of 'Prismatic Ending' voor bredere antwoorden; `March of Otherworldly Light` is ook flexibeler en sneller. Command Decision zou over het algemeen geen competitief geconstrueerd spel moeten zien, hoewel het redelijk zou kunnen zijn in beperkte, budgetdecks of langzamere Commander-omgevingen waar grote wezens veel voorkomen en modaal kaartvoordeel waardevol is.
