Herstel kan gunstig zijn in een defensief wit controledek dat tot doel heeft zijn levenstotaal te stabiliseren en in de loop van de tijd steeds meer voordeel te behalen. Er zijn echter vaak betere opties om leven te verkrijgen in dit formaat, zoals kaarten zoals Sphinx's Revelation of Baneslayer Angel, die grotere of meer directe effecten opleveren. Herstel kan moeite hebben om een plaats te vinden in competitief spel vanwege het relatief trage vermogen en de lage impact ervan in vergelijking met andere beschikbare opties.
