This card, Damping Matrix, would be beneficial in a deck that aims to control the board by shutting down activated abilities of artifacts and creatures. Decks that rely heavily on activated abilities, such as artifact-based decks or decks that use creatures with powerful activated abilities, would struggle against Damping Matrix. While there may be other cards that offer similar effects, Damping Matrix can be a strong choice depending on the meta and the specific strategy of the deck, making it a viable option for play in certain situations.

Activated abilities contain a colon. They’re generally written “[Cost]: [Effect].” Some keyword abilities, such as equip, are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder text.

Damping Matrix’s ability affects only artifacts and creatures on the battlefield. Activated abilities that work in other zones (such as bloodrush or unearth) can still be activated. Triggered abilities (starting with “when,” “whenever,” or “at”) are unaffected.
