A deck that focuses on emptying its hand quickly, such as a aggressive red-black deck with cards that allow for card draw or discard, would benefit from using Dread Slag. However, there are better options available such as Gurmag Angler or Tombstalker, which provide a more consistent power level without the drawback of reducing their own stats based on hand size. Overall, Dread Slag may not see much play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks due to its potential downside.
