Entangling Trap zou goed passen in een controle- of tempodeck dat tot doel heeft tegenstanders te ontwrichten terwijl de aanwezigheid op het bord behouden blijft, vooral in formaten waar botsingen haalbaar zijn. Het kan agressieve strategieën effectief belemmeren door te voorkomen dat belangrijke wezens zich onttrekken, waardoor strategische aanvallen of verdedigingen mogelijk zijn. Er zijn echter aantoonbaar sterkere opties, zoals Oblivion Ring of Detention Sphere, die een veelzijdiger verwijdering mogelijk maken zonder afhankelijk te zijn van het clash-mechanisme. Hoewel Entangling Trap leuk en synergetisch kan zijn bij casual spelen, kan de afhankelijkheid van clash de concurrentiekracht in serieuzere formats beperken, wat erop wijst dat het selectief moet worden gebruikt in plaats van als hoofdbestanddeel.
