Kry Shield zou vooral nuttig zijn in een controle- of midrange-deck dat zich richt op het beschermen van belangrijke wezens en tegelijkertijd hun manawaarde maximaliseert, omdat het zowel schadepreventie als een tijdelijke boost in taaiheid mogelijk maakt. Decks die gebruik maken van wezens met een hoge manawaarde, zoals die met Eldrazi of andere grote bedreigingen, kunnen Kry Shield effectief inzetten. Er zijn echter aantoonbaar betere opties voor het voorkomen van schade en het verbeteren van wezens, zoals Heroic Intervention, dat onverwoestbaarheid en hexproof biedt voor een breder scala aan permanents. Hoewel Kry Shield zijn niche heeft, wordt het misschien niet op grote schaal gespeeld in vergelijking met meer veelzijdige alternatieven.
