Een Red Burn-deck gericht op het snel vullen van het kerkhof zou baat hebben bij Lightning Surge, vooral als het op betrouwbare wijze de drempel kan bereiken om 6 schade aan te richten. Hoewel Lightning Surge een solide optie is voor directe schade, geven sommige spelers misschien de voorkeur aan veelzijdigere of efficiëntere burn-spreuken zoals Lightning Bolt of Skewer the Critics, die tegen goedkopere kosten kunnen worden gebruikt en niet afhankelijk zijn van kerkhofomstandigheden. Over het geheel genomen zou Lightning Surge kunnen worden toegepast in specifieke op kerkhoven gerichte burn-strategieën, maar is mogelijk niet de beste keuze voor alle rode decks.

The converted mana cost of the spell is determined only by its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast the spell was.
