Nova Pentacle zou in de eerste plaats ten goede komen aan defensieve controledekken die zichzelf tegen schade willen beschermen door het in plaats daarvan om te leiden naar een wezen naar keuze van de tegenstander. Hoewel het goed past in een kaartspel dat gericht is op overlevingskansen, zijn er betere opties zoals Phyrexian Obliterator of Platinum Angel, die elk unieke voordelen bieden die bij bepaalde strategieën mogelijk meer impact hebben. Nova Pentacle zou echter nog steeds spel kunnen zien in specifieke meta- of sideboard-situaties waar het effect ervan schittert.
