Een kaartspel dat zich richt op het beheersen van het bord en het genereren van kaartvoordeel zou baat hebben bij het opnemen van Parting Thoughts. Hoewel het een veelzijdige verwijderingsoptie biedt die ook voor het trekken van kaarten kan zorgen, zijn er potentieel betere verwijderingsspreuken beschikbaar, zoals Murder of Hero's Downfall, die een eenvoudiger verwijdering bieden zonder het nadeel van levensverlies. Als het kaartspel echter is opgebouwd rond synergieën die profiteren van het opofferen van wezens of het verkrijgen van leven, zou Parting Thoughts een haalbare toevoeging kunnen zijn, maar over het algemeen wordt het misschien niet op grote schaal gespeeld in competitieve kaartspellen.

If a creature has +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters on it, state-based actions remove the same number of each so that it has only one of those kinds of counters on it. There won’t be any counters of the other kind for Parting Thoughts to count.
