Een controle- of tempodeck zou baat hebben bij het gebruik van Snapcaster Mage vanwege de veelzijdigheid ervan in het bieden van extra waarde door het hergebruiken van krachtige instant- of tovenarij-spreuken van het kerkhof. Hoewel er andere kaarten zijn die vergelijkbare rollen kunnen vervullen, zoals Torrential Gearhulk of Jace, maken Vryn's Prodigy, de efficiëntie en flexibiliteit van Snapcaster Mage het een sterke kanshebber voor opname in decks die afhankelijk zijn van instant- en tovenarij-spreuken. Het zou zeker spel moeten zien in decks die hun op spells gebaseerde strategieën willen maximaliseren.
