Spell Contortion zou nuttig zijn in een controledeck dat tot doel heeft het spelplan van de tegenstander te verstoren door spreuken tegen te gaan en kaarten te trekken voor kaartvoordeel. Hoewel het flexibiliteit biedt met Multikicker, zijn er potentieel betere opties zoals Mana Leak of Remand die meer directe waarde of verstoring bieden. Spell Contortion zou echter spel kunnen zien in bepaalde nichedecks die afhankelijk zijn van synergieën met spell countering en card draw.
