De Howling Commandos zouden het beste passen in een go-wide mono-white of white-based Soldiers/tribal aggro-deck, vooral een deck dat veel wezensfiches produceert en laat-game mana-sinks nodig heeft om door vastgelopen boards heen te dringen. De geactiveerde vaardigheid beloont het hebben van veel wezens en vooral soldaten, waardoor het het sterkst is in casual of Commander-builds die aanzienlijke mana- en boardaanwezigheid kunnen genereren; Het betalen van 5 mana voor slechts +1/+1 en waakzaamheid tot het einde van de beurt is echter behoorlijk inefficiënt vergeleken met sterkere anthem- of overrun-effecten. Kaarten als **Mirror Entity** (schaalt veel harder met mana), **Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite** (permanent, asymmetrisch volkslied), **Cathars’ Crusade** (sneeuwbalende tellers), of zelfs **Intangible Virtue** en **Benalish Marshal** (statische, goedkopere verbeteringen) bieden veel meer impact voor hun prijs, en **Captain of the Watch** of **Valiant Veteran** zijn specifiek beter
