**Vicious Rivalry** past het beste in een Golgari (B/G) midrange- of controledeck dat comfortabel levens kan betalen als hulpbron, vooral degenen met een sterke levenswinst (bijvoorbeeld *Sheldred, the Apocalypse*, *Scavenging Ooze*, *The Meathook Massacre*) of die tegenstanders op natuurlijke wijze tot langere games dwingen. Het is vooral aantrekkelijk in meta's die zwaar zijn op laag bij de grond geplaatste wezens, artefactstrategieën of tokenzwermen, omdat je X kunt instellen om vroege borden te vegen terwijl je grotere eigen bedreigingen behoudt.
