About Large Bear
Large Bear, Creature — bear, designed by Adrián Rodríguez Pérez first released in Jul, 2026 in the set The Hobbit.
Large Bear would fit best in a casual Golgari (black-green) stompy or Bear-tribal deck, where its reach can deter flyers, trample lets its power push through blockers, and haste makes it an immediate attacker; however, at five mana, it needs to have very strong power and toughness or additional synergy to justify a slot. For general midrange or aggressive decks, **Questing Beast** is usually much better: it costs four mana, has haste, vigilance, deathtouch, strong combat evasion, and is immediately threatening, while **Elder Gargaroth** is a stronger five-mana reach/trample creature if haste is not essential because it generates substantial value whenever it attacks or blocks. Large Bear could see play in a dedicated casual Bear deck or budget environment, especially if it is at least a 5/5, but it is unlikely to be competitive outside of tribal synergy because five-mana creatures need to do more than simply provide combat keywords.
