This Cartouche of Ambition card would be beneficial in a black-based aggressive deck looking to gain life and weaken opponent's creatures. While it provides a power boost and lifelink to the enchanted creature, there may be better options like Cartouche of Strength which offers a larger power boost and the ability to fight a creature upon entering the battlefield. However, Cartouche of Ambition could still see play in specific strategies focused on lifegain and creature control.

If the target creature becomes an illegal target before a Cartouche spell resolves, the spell doesn’t resolve. It doesn’t enter the battlefield.
