Many people still haven't gone to a CommandFest (Commander Festival), so they don't know what the experience is like. Are you one of them?! So follow me in this text to see what you'll be missing if you don't go!
Oh, and if you've already been to one, leave a comment talking about your experience!
What is CommandFest?
In the words of the people who run CommandFest:
“CommandFest is a friendly event where fun is the watchword: an entire weekend focused on creating the best immersive experience for Commander fans of all tribes”

So, one thing that sometimes causes a lot of confusion and is worth clarifying first of all, is that the event will work both for players who are already experienced in Commander, as well as for those who are just starting out and haven't had the opportunity to play in a store yet . This will all be possible thanks to a Tix system from the event itself.
In short, you'll play your matches during the event… And whether you win or lose, you'll always earn Tix, which in turn will be used as exchange currency to purchase products from the store.
Being more specific:
- If you lose, you get 10 tix
- If you tie, you get 30 Tix
- If you win, you receive 50 tix
In 2023, the theme of the event will be Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth, a booster from the collection could be exchanged for in case you play matches! Just join the event and play.
Prize examples using the Orlando CommandFest:
Booster Pack | Tix |
---|---|
Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Draft | 40 |
Commander Legends: Battle for Bauldur’s Gate Draft | 50 |
Commander Legends: Battle for Bauldur’s Gate Set | 60 |
Battlebond | 100 |
The Brothers’ War Jumpstart | 30 |
The Brothers’ War Set | 40 |
Commander Legends Draft | 80 |
Commander Decks | Tix |
---|---|
Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander – Corrupting Influence | 400 |
Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander – Rebellion Rising | 400 |
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Commander – Draconic Dissent | 350 |
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Commander – Exit From Exile | 350 |
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Commander – Draconic Dissent | 350 |
Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate Commander – Mind Flayarrrs | 500 |
You can also complete your amount of tix with your money to purchase more expensive products, but this is up to you.
Scavenger hunts
Last year (2022) the theme was Baldur's Gate and there was a small gymkhana during the event. It was like a Dungeon in which the participants completed several dungeon quests and continued stamping their progress in the dungeon, walking the little houses along the way. The first 10 to finish exchanged their card for a promotional card, which at the time was the Conjurer's Closet.
This year, the mission will involve Middle Earth and the top 10 will receive a set of special cards, but we can't release the information yet! The organization is working to publicize them at the best time... and also to give that good expectation to those who are curious like me!

Tickets
Mystery or Core? That is the question.
As in any event, experiences can change depending on the package purchased, and this is no different. But since there are only two options, Core ticket and Mystery ticket, it's quick for you to understand and choose which one you want!
What's in the Core ticket?!
This ticket is the most affordable, but that doesn't mean the fun will be less!
Access to the venue;
- 02 Promo Card Caras Galadhon non-foil;
- 01 Promo Card Gandalf, Friend of the Shire non-foil;
- 01 Promo Card Arcane Signet non-foil;
- 01 Promo Card Norn's Annex FOIL (Commander Party Phryrexian);
- 05 On-Demand Tournament Vouchers
Reading the information, you will notice that it offers you 5 On-demand Tournament Vouchers. And what are these tournaments?! Remember that I told you that you could lose all of them and you would still receive tix?!
Well, these on-demand tournaments are tables where several matches will be taking place throughout the event. Just sit back and play, try to win to acquire more tix - but either way, there are 5 games to have a lot of fun!
What's in the Mystery ticket?
The special thing about this ticket is that it entitles you to a Sealed Tournament, where you'll receive 6 Mystery Boosters and build a deck of 40 cards using whatever you draw to compete. But that's not all, check out the full list of what you get below:

I want to go, but my deck is very humble… What should I do?
In the words of the organization itself when we asked about it:
[quote]{You don't have to worry about having a super strong deck, you don't even have to worry about having a deck. It's even possible to go without decks!}{CommandFest Organization}
This is because there will be tournaments of all kinds, such as one of the Sealed ones, and tournaments in which you will play with a borrowed deck from the organization (one of the four decks in the Lord of the Rings set). Oh, and detail… [m]{The great champion of this tournament takes home a kit with the four decks}!
Clearly, you will have the opportunity to participate in the most diverse variations of “Commander”! There will be those who prefer to play a more casual Commander, as there will be people playing hardcore mode there! There will be others with more years of experience and will prefer to enter with their cEDH deck with reserved list and old duals!

And it will have parallel fun events like one of the event's partners, Markov, who will organize tribal themed sessions!
It is also possible to have Planechase, Oathbreaker, Commander 100 tables and, if you find it fun too, even a Pauper Commander can happen! It will be a very receptive event, where the only law in fact is fun and respect!
Invitation and differentials
Anyway, even for completely new players, the event is highly recommended because last year there were cases of new people who participated in the Drafts and ended up getting their first cards, which in turn motivated them to continue in our community.
The difference is that now an event called Deluxe Draft will take place that will use Dominaria Remastered boosters and the winners, instead of tix, will win Lord of the Rings Collector Boosters. Take your friend who isn't very familiar with MTG and give him the opportunity to join this big family!
We'll have more articles here about the event, so keep an eye out for updates. For those who will be there, see you on the battlefield!
