Fateful Discovery would be best in a blue artifact-token or artifact-combo Commander deck—such as Urza, Sai, Breya, Emry, or Shorikai—that can repeatedly create Treasure, Clue, Food, Thopter, Servo, or other cheap artifact tokens, since every artifact entering replaces itself with a card; it is much less appealing in a deck merely playing a normal number of expensive artifacts. At five mana, though, it is slow and does nothing immediately, so it would usually be outclassed by cheaper or more immediately productive engines: **Mystic Forge** provides artifact-heavy decks card advantage for four mana, **Vedalken Archmage** draws for each artifact spell cast at four mana, **The Reality Chip** can generate enormous value from the top of the library, and token decks may prefer **Skullclamp** or **Idol of Oblivion** for far less mana.
