About The Thing

The Thing, Legendary creature — human hero, designed by Darius Zablockis first released in Dec, 2025 in the set Marvel Super Heroes Commander.

The Thing would fit best in a 4‑color (RGWU) counters or “spells-matter” midrange deck that can reliably cast noncreature spells before combat and generate various counters (e.g., +1/+1, loyalty, shield, or keyword counters) to maximize the attack trigger; it pairs especially well with token strategies using +1/+1 counters, planeswalkers, and cards like Hardened Scales or Doubling Season to snowball value. However, at six mana plus a four-color activation cost, it’s very demanding and slow for competitive formats, where cards like Atraxa, Praetors’ Voice (proliferate and strong keywords), Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider (counter doubling with less setup), or Jetmir, Nexus of Revels (immediate board impact in multicolor aggro) are generally stronger and more efficient; even Doubling Season itself often provides more reliable value. As such, this card would likely be best as a flashy Commander build-around in a 4‑color counters deck rather than a competitive staple in faster formats.
