Magic in 2026: Wizards Reveals Full Release Schedule

Wizards of the Coast announced this Friday (26) the release schedule for Magic: The Gathering for 2026. The releases were revealed at MagicCon Atlanta.

The next year will be atypical: instead of the traditional six sets, the game will have seven official sets, marked by both returns to classic settings and new collaborations in the Universes Beyond series. The company explained that the change is due to the volume of planned collaborations. For 2027, however, the company claims they will return to the standard six-sets per year schedule.

The first release of 2026 will be Lorwyn Eclipsed, out January 23. The set marks a return to Lorwyn after more than a decade since the original visit to the plane, bringing new and returning characters and a new story surrounding the cycle of Day and Night that transforms it into Shadowmoor.

The second release of 2026 takes place in March and is a partnership between Magic: The Gathering and an as-yet-unrevealed Nickelodeon franchise. The expansion will be revealed on October 10th at New York Comic-Con.

Secrets of Strixhaven will be released in April and will tell the story of the students as they explore the wonders and secrets of Archavios. The set will be accompanied by the release of the book Strixhaven: Omen of Chaos, written by Seanan McGuire.

The new expansion from the partnership between Marvel and Magic: The Gathering will be Marvel Super Heroes, bringing together several heroes and villains from the famous comic book franchise in a single release.

Players return to Middle-earth with Universes Beyond: The Hobbit in August 2026, following the journey of Bilbo Baggins and his crew to the Lonely Mountain. The set will also launch on Magic Arena.

Reality Fracture will be the third and final set in the Magic multiverse in 2026, concluding the game's current story arc and revealing an unexpected new villain. It is scheduled for release in October.

To round out the year, the partnership between Magic and Star Trek is finally confirmed. The collab brings the mythology of the Federation, Klingons, and other iconic races to the card game in an expansion that incorporates narrative elements and characters from across the entire franchise.
