Introduction

All MTG players use triggered abilities in their decks. Can you remember which one you're using in yours?

Even if you can't remember right away, you have definitely used a creature that does something "when it enters" or "when it leaves" the battlefield.

Unlike activated abilities, triggered abilities have no activation cost, so you'll need a specific trigger to, well, trigger its effect. For instance, Atraxa, Grand Unifier's triggered ability triggers when it enters the battlefield (known as an "ETB" effect).

These cards are so popular that you'll often see decks built around them.

To empower your deck, in this article, we listed 25 cards that will trigger your cards' effects an extra time.

And, as this is not a ranking, we separated them by sub-themes. We'll start with the most popular type of triggered effect: ETBs!

Enter the Battlefield (ETB)

Panharmonicon

Panharmonicon deserves a shoutout. This artifact is incredibly popular and well-known in the community because it triggers ETB abilities another time.

One card you can use with it is Ravenous Chupacabra. With this card, you'll destroy two target creatures controlled by your opponent.

Ancient Greenwarden

Ancient Greenwarden is better in decks that focus on landfall, as it triggers your permanents' abilities an extra time if they interact with other lands when they enter the board, like Tireless Provisioner.

Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines

Unlike other cards with this theme, Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines is great for your ETBs and locks down your opponent's. It is a true headache for them.

Virtue of Knowledge

The Wilds of Eldraine Virtue cycle includes incredibly interesting cards - and Virtue of Knowledge is definitely one of them.

You can cast it as an instant to copy an activated or triggered ability in your control and pick new targets. Or, you can cast it as an enchantment (you can also cast it like so if it is an Adventure) to trigger ETB abilities under your control an extra time.

Death

Death effects also trigger an extra time with Teysa Karlov (which also buffs your tokens) and Drivnod, Carnage Dominus.

These cards are great with Blood Artist, for instance.

Attack

If you like aggro decks, these two boys are quite useful!

Isshin, Two Heavens as One

Our favorite samurai definitely deserves a highlight, and many players can't tell why at a first glance: his text states, "if a creature attacking causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time."

So, with this card, you'll be able to use spells like Shiny Impetus on your opponent's creatures. When they attack, something great will happen to you (if you use Shiny Impetus, for instance, you'll create another treasure token).

Damage

Wayta, Trainer Prodigy interacts with cards like Vrondiss, Rage of Ancients really well, as it triggers certain effects an extra time. More specifically, it triggers effects that trigger when your creatures are dealt damage an extra time.

As for Felix Five-Boots, it is the opposite. It triggers effects an extra time when your creatures deal damage, like Koma, World-Eater.

Dungeon

The "venture into dungeon" abilities and "undercity" abilities also have support of their own: Hama Pashar, Ruin Seeker and Dungeon Delver.

These mechanics are less popular, but you can combine them to create incredibly strong Commander decks, like Safana, Calimport Cutthroat and Dungeon Delver.

Others

Roaming Throne

Even when a deck doesn't focus specifically on a creature type, Roaming Throne is good. It is so great overall that it finds space in your deck to buff the effects of a few key-creatures.

Here's another funny example: you can pick "Rabbit" to trigger Hare Apparent's effect another time, or, if you're more serious, you can pick "Dragon" to buff Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm's effect.

Harmonic Prodigy

Harmonic Prodigy interacts with Shamans or Wizards and triggers their ability an extra time. So, you can add one copy of this creature to your deck with Cecily, Haunted Mage, and another to your deck with Bright-Palm, Soul Awakener.

If you want to play decks that focus on Wizards, like Inalla, Archmage Ritualist, you can also use Naban, Dean of Iteration, which interacts with effects that trigger when this type of creature enters the battlefield under your control.

Annie Joins Up

Five-color decks that focus on legendary cards are quite popular in Commander, particularly with commanders like Jodah, the Unifier and Sisay, Weatherlight Captain.

Annie Joins Up is the perfect enchantment to buff decks that focus on legendary creatures. Besides supporting their abilities, when this enchantment enters the battlefield, it deals damage to a creature or planeswalker your opponent controls. This means it is, potentially, a spot removal.

Clara Oswald

Clara Oswald interacts with Doctors and triggers their abilities an extra time.

Clara is also a Doctor's Companion, a sort of partner specifically for Doctors, and, as you can pick any color for her before the game starts, she is great with any Doctor.

If you want to see more options for her, check out this article with all Doctor Who preconslink outside website.

Echoes of Eternity

If you enjoy colorless decks, like Eldrazi and artifact decks, meet your new best friend, Echoes of Eternity!

Besides supporting cards like Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender, this enchantment also copies your colorless spells. Just think about it: two Giggling Skitterspike dealing damage to your opponents. With this enchantment, it is possible!

Gandalf the White

We almost included Gandalf the White back with the other ETB cards, but, as he also interacts with abilities triggered by legendary permanents that leave your battlefield, it deserved its own section.

Besides the effect we commented above, Gandalf also has flash and lets you cast legendary and artifact spells as if they had flash. It is a big surprise for your opponents.

Mirror Room

Loading icon

Mirror Room is a Room enchantment, a mechanic introduced in Duskmourn. You can cast this spell by opening any of its sides (called "doors") and then open the other ones later on.

For this article, the important effect is on the Fractured Realm side, which triggers any permanent you control an extra time.

This applies to ETB, death, combat, or damage effects, as well as whatever else you want (and need!).

Its mana cost is quite high, but you can play around this with cards like Marina Vendrell or Ghostly Keybearer, which unlock Room doors.

Final Words

There are many (and I mean, many) cards that trigger your permanents' effects an extra time. This array of possibilities benefits many decks with the most diverse mechanics.

These cards don't carry the game on their own, but they certainly support whatever you want to put in play.
