Introduction

Greetings, Legacy community! We are still sifting through Aetherdriftlink outside website to see if we can find anything interesting for Legacy. As I mentioned before, usually Standard-focused sets don't affect Legacy much, but there's always something we can find in them to play.

This time, I stumbled upon something that seems to go really well with a few other cards we are all used to:

Unstoppable Plan

Turn, Turn, and Tap

There are many artifacts in Legacy that give you something when they're taped - either because their activated abilities are quite strong, or because they don't typically untap, like The One Ring and Grim Monolith. Engines like Manifold Key and Paradox Engine give you even more advantages when you untap these artifacts, and are responsible for the success of combo decks with Mystic Forge or Coveted Jewel.

First of all, mono-colorless lists like Mystic Forge are probably not the best home for Unstoppable Plan. However, lists with Phyrexian Metamorph and Transmute Artifact should see a lot of value in another blue card for their strategy, particularly as they mostly play colorless cards but still want to use…Force of Will! Now that we once again reminded you of the value of all blue cards in Legacy, let's take a closer look at it.

Unlike Paradox Engine, which is a continuous piece in its combo (and which, as a result, costs an expensive five mana to enter play), Unstoppable Plan wants to create value from your cards and eventually give you so many resources that your opponent won't be able to deal with your cards.

If this enchantment is active, The One Ring will activate twice as many times, or four times more if you also have Manifold Key, and Grim Monolith and Basalt Monolith will give you an obscene amount of mana stress-free. You will be able to use your mana proactively on your turn and your opponent's, and your mana artifacts will be available to boost a Kozilek's Command. If Candelabra of Tawnos is in play, you'll create an even bigger amount of mana. The combination of Karn, the Great Creator with Liquimetal Coating destroys an enemy land on your turn, and stops another on their turn (just activate it during the upkeep, and they won't be able to use their activated abilities).

This all gets even better when you realize that your copies of Unstoppable Plan stack: each enchantment will trigger their own ability separately. So, with two in play, you can: activate The One Ring, draw cards, untap it with Manifold Key, activate it, draw more cards, and resolve the Plan's first ability. Then, you'll untap it all, activate The One Ring, untap, activate it, resolve your second Plan…. You know where this is going, right? Borne Upon a Wind can even show up as a way to finish the game in the end phase, similarly to the way it is used in Necrodominance decks.

I Love It When My Plans Work

Considering all I mentioned above, it seems like Unstoppable Plan can fit decks with Coveted Jewel really well. This way, its extra untap effects will give you not only cards, but also a lot of mana in your end phase. With the right adjustments, you can already resolve a combo right then, or create enough advantage to end the game when it is your turn again.

The idea is to create a truckload of cards and mana in your end phase, use Borne Upon a Wind to play everything as instants, untap everything again, create more mana, play more cards. At the end of it all, you'll have enough mana to put an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in play. Or, you'll deal damage freely with a gigantic board and with protection from everything because of the other The One Ring you played when you were tapping and untapping. You'll also be ready to do everything again when it is your turn again.

Final Words

Unstoppable Plan made me think of a few conservative, yet more resilient versions of blue artifacts decks. These would give you the privilege of building your hand to mow down your opponent at once, instead of trying to combo through brute force.

This is just an initial idea, and, surely, there are many other decks we can build with these cards. Let's see what our fantastic Legacy brains can come up with this incredible card!
