Wizards announced through the WeeklyMTG program a new high-level competitive event for Magic: The Gathering in 2025, the Spotlight Series.
The Spotlight Series will be events with a variety of attractions including artists, side tournaments and vendors, in addition to a two-day main tournament where players will compete for the $50,000 prize and invitations to an upcoming Pro Tour for the Top 8. The main tournament will be of a single format on both days, with nine rounds on Saturday and six rounds on Sunday, with a cutoff for the Top 8, which takes place on the same day, the champion of the event will win the largest portion of the total prize pool and an exclusive prize based on the event's theme.

These events will be open to the public and any player eligible for Magic tournaments can participate. Players receive a season-based promo card for their participation, and the Top 128 receive a foil version of the same card.
The following regions will host Magic Spotlight Series events in 2025:
Magic Spotlight: Foundations - January 3-5, 2025
The first Magic Spotlight event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, USA and its main event will be in the Standard format to celebrate the arrival of the new Core Set, Foundations. All participating players will receive a promo version of Terror of the Peaks illustrated by Richard Kane Ferguson
Magic Spotlight: Modern - March 15 and 16, 2025
The second event will take place in Utrecht, Netherlands and will have the Modern format as the main theme of the tournament. Players will receive a promo version of Kaldra Compleat illustrated by Monztre.
