A deck focused on casting a high number of kicked spells, such as a Blue-Red Kicker deck in Magic: the Gathering, would benefit from including Risen Riptide. However, there are potentially better cards for this strategy, such as Murasa Sproutling, which not only benefits from kicked spells but also provides additional value by returning them from the graveyard to your hand. Risen Riptide could see play in a more budget or casual deck, but in a competitive setting, other options may be more efficient.

Risen Riptide’s ability overwrites any previous effects that set its power and/or toughness to specific values. Other effects that set these characteristics to specific values that start to apply after the ability resolves will overwrite that part of the effect.
