Weird Playtest Cards Will Start to Appear in Wizards Products

Yesterday, July 20th, many Magic: The Gathering fans were left scratching their heads over an announcement made on the official website by Blake Rasmussen, "the communications guy" at Wizards of the Coast.

The announcement, which was as weird as it was short, showed a picture of a card, described it as a "playtest card", and warned readers that they weren't tournament legal.

"Fun, right? It looks a little bit like one of those playtest cards from Mystery Booster or one of those special cards from Gavin Verhey's events at MagicCon, but it was created in a brand-new way. We call them playtest cards, because they look like what we use to, well, playtest cards before making the real thing." - Blake Rasmussen, in the article.

The article went on to describe that these cards might be seen in the wild, and "represent an actual, pre-existing card.". So, these cards are some sort of different product which is likely to be included in a certain set or box, but Wizards of the Coast isn't ready to reveal much about it other than the fact that it isn't tournament legal.

The announcement caused many genuine reactions over on Reddit, where someone posted the following:

Now, everyone is wondering which Magic product will include these "playtest cards". Some fans considered a new Secret Lair, others think it's another 30th Anniversary thing. There's a lot of space for speculation, as Blake Rasmussen didn't mention where we might open these weird cards.
