Un mazo centrado en contadores -1/-1 y efectos de drenaje de vida, como un mazo Golgari o Jund en Magic: the Gathering, se beneficiaría al incluir Obelisk Spider. Tiene buena sinergia con otras cartas que distribuyen contadores -1/-1, lo que permite una ganancia de vida incremental y una pérdida de vida del oponente. Si bien puede haber cartas más poderosas con efectos similares como Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons o Nest of Scarabs, Obelisk Spider aún puede ser una inclusión sólida en el mazo correcto como una fuente constante de ganancia de vida y potencial de daño.
