Averna, the Chaos Bloom would be a great addition to a Cascade-themed deck in Magic: The Gathering, especially in a Temur (G U R) color combination. This card provides additional value by allowing you to put a land card onto the battlefield tapped as you cascade, ensuring consistent mana development while triggering cascade effects. While there may be other powerful cards in the format, Averna's unique ability to ramp and synergize with Cascade makes it a strong contender for inclusion in decks that focus on this mechanic.

Rules

03/19/21

A spell’s converted mana cost is determined only by its mana cost. Ignore any alternative costs, additional costs, cost increases, or cost reductions. For example, Bloodbraid Elf’s converted mana cost is always 4.

03/19/21

If the card has in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.

03/19/21

The converted mana cost of a modal double-faced card in exile is that of its front face. If the last card you exile is a modal double-faced card, you may only cast the back face if the resulting spell would also have a lesser converted mana cost than the spell with cascade.

03/19/21

When the cascade ability resolves, you must exile cards. The only optional part of the ability is whether or not you cast the last card exiled.

03/19/21

You exile the cards face up. All players will be able to see them.

11/10/20

Averna’s ability isn’t the same as playing a land. You may do this even if you’ve already played a land during your turn and even if it isn’t your turn at all.

11/10/20

Countering the spell with cascade has no effect on the cascade ability.

11/10/20

The cascade ability triggers when you cast the spell, meaning that it resolves before that spell. If you cast the card exiled by the cascade ability, that spell will go on the stack above the spell with cascade.

11/10/20

You don’t have to cast the last card exiled by a cascade ability. If you choose to do so, you’re casting it as a spell. This means that it can be countered, and appropriate abilities trigger (such as if that spell also has cascade).
