This card would be a great addition to a blue-based control deck that focuses on casting a lot of noncreature spells to trigger its prowess ability and boost its power. While Riverwheel Aerialists can be a solid inclusion in such a deck, there are potentially better options like Stormwing Entity or Sprite Dragon that offer similar abilities with more efficient costs and additional benefits, so it may not see widespread play in competitive Magic: the Gathering decks.

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
