Hel om te betalen, Tovenarij, designed by Liiga Smilshkalne first released in februari 2024 in the set Outlaws of Thunder Junction and was printed exactly in 5 different ways. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of € 0,39.

Hell to Pay kan nuttig zijn in een Red Burn-deck dat zich richt op het toebrengen van directe schade aan wezens en het genereren van extra grondstoffen via schatfiches. Er zijn echter efficiëntere opties zoals Lightning Bolt of Searing Blaze die onmiddellijke verwijdering mogelijk maken zonder dat er overmatige schade moet worden aangericht. Over het geheel genomen ziet Hell to Pay mogelijk niet veel spel in competitieve Magic: The Gathering-decks vanwege de hogere kosten en voorwaardelijke effectiviteit in vergelijking met andere verwijderingsspreuken.

Excess damage has been dealt to a creature if the damage dealt to it is greater than lethal damage. Usually, this means damage greater than its toughness, although damage already marked on the creature is taken into account.

In some unusual cases, Hell to Pay may have deathtouch. Even 1 damage dealt to a creature from a source with deathtouch is considered lethal damage, so any amount greater than that will cause excess damage to be dealt, even if the total amount of damage isn’t greater than the creature’s toughness.
