However, there are better options like Phyrexian Arena or Bitterblossom that provide card advantage without the downside of self-damage, making them more efficient choices for most decks. Jinxed Idol could see play in a specific build looking to capitalize on its unique effect, but in general, there are stronger alternatives available.

If you sacrifice an attacking or blocking creature during the declare blockers step, it won’t deal combat damage. If you wait until the combat damage step, but that creature is dealt lethal damage, it’ll be destroyed before you get a chance to sacrifice it.
