Memory Lapse zou een waardevolle toevoeging zijn aan een controledeck in Magic: the Gathering, omdat het een goedkope en efficiënte manier biedt om een spreuk tegen te gaan en tegelijkertijd de trekking van de tegenstander te verstoren door de gecounterde spreuk bovenop zijn bibliotheek te plaatsen. Er zijn echter aantoonbaar betere opties zoals Mana Leak of Force of Will die meer flexibiliteit of een sterker effect bieden, dus Memory Lapse is misschien geen topkeuze voor competitief spel, maar zou toch een plaats kunnen vinden in bepaalde budget- of casual decks.
