Een kaartspel dat zich richt op het uitspreken van spreuken met zowel blauwe als rode manavereisten, zoals een tempo- of controledek, zou baat hebben bij het gebruik van Shivan Reef omdat het flexibiliteit biedt bij de manaproductie. Er zijn echter betere opties, zoals Steam Vents, die zowel blauwe als rode mana kunnen produceren zonder jou schade te berokkenen. Shivan Reef zou nog steeds spel kunnen zien in budgetdecks of in decks die extra manafixing vereisen, maar meer competitieve decks kunnen kiezen voor efficiëntere dual-land.
