Ninth Edition is een kernset van Magic: The Gathering die dient als een viering van de rijke geschiedenis van het spel en spelers kennis laat maken met klassieke mechanica en iconische kaarten. De overlevering van Ninth Edition speelt zich af tegen de achtergrond van het multiversum en draait om de voortdurende strijd tussen krachtige planeswalkers en de krachten die hun werelden bedreigen. Deze editie keert terug naar fundamentele mechanismen zoals Flying, Trample en First Strike, die de nadruk leggen op strategische gevechten en hulpbronnenbeheer.
