It's Magic... in Space!
Hello, eveyone!
The new set, Edge of Eternities, is orbiting ever closer!
With pre-release events taking place next week—July 25th–31st—and the set's release the following week, we'll set our warp speed to prepare for new features and mechanics!
Space puns aside, Edge of Eternities brings, as usual, many new mechanics—some very familiar to veteran players, since they resemble existing mechanics. The set also brings a Rotation for the Standard Format Rotation, so we'll cover that too!Let's go!
Edge of Eternities - Release Info and Rotation
The new set officially releases on August 1, 2025. According to the Standard Format Rotation calendar, Edge of Eternities is the set that marks the 2025 Rotation.
This means that, starting August 1, 2025, five sets will no longer be legal in Standard:
- Dominaria United
- The Brother's War
- Phyrexia: All Will Be One
- March of the Machine
- March of the Machine: Aftermath
In other words, all sets released from Wilds of Eldraine onward remain legal in Standard.
Rotation does not affect the recent banning of several cards in the Format. Cards banned from sets that remain in Standard will stay banned!
Edge of Eternities Mechanics
In total, we have three new mechanics and a few new card subtypes and tokens.
Void

The new mechanic, Void, is reminiscent of the Revolt mechanic, featured on the popular card Fatal Push. Void can occur in two ways: as a keyword ability or as a triggered ability.
In the case of Voidforged Titan, as seen above, it's a triggered ability. If, at the beginning of the end step, the Void requirement is met, the Titan triggers, and upon resolving the ability, you draw a card and lose 1 life.
Some other cards use Void only as a keyword, but the requirement is the same. Basically, if the condition is met, the card has an improved effect, as in the following example Tragic Trajectory:

The requiremente for Void, as seen on the cards, is either a nonland permanent left the battlefield this turn - no Fetchlands synergy here! -, or a spell was cast with Warp. So let's now talk about Warp, which is another new mechanic!
Warp

Warp is a new ability on permanents, that represents an alternative cost for casting them. When you cast a permanent with the Warp cost, the card enters the battlefield normally, but when you begin your end step, you will exile the card.
Once exiled, on a future turn, you may cast the card from exile, now paying its normal cost. When cast from exile, the card enters the battlefield normally, as if it had never Warped before.
Remember that you don't necessarily have to Warp from hand! You'll choose whether or not to cast using the Warp cost, but the choice indicates whether or not the permanent will go to exile!
Finally, Warp can only be cast while the card is in your hand, so you can't Warp from other zones, such as Exile or the Graveyard. Of course, there are exceptions, but when this occurs, it will be described on the card itself, as in Timeline Culler, for example.
New Subtypes: Spacecraft and Planet
This set introduces two new subtypes: Spacecraft, which is an artifact subtype, and Planet, which is a non-basic land subtype.
They are good reminders that every card with one of these new subtypes will also have the new ability, Station!
Station
Station is a new ability in cards with the new Spacecraft or Planet subtypes. If you remember the Vehicles from Aetherdrift, you'll see the mechanics are quite similar!


Station is an activated ability that requires you to tap a creature you control, at Sorcery speed. By doing so, you put Charge Counters on the permanent with Station equal to the power of the creature you tapped.
When the permanent with Station reaches the number indicated on the card, it will either become a creature—in the case of some Spacecrafts—or gain an ability—in the case of Planets.
Remember that, similar to how Vehicles only become creatures after being crewed, Spacecrafts also only become creatures when they reach the indicated number of Station!
Some cards may even have more than one Station threshold, indicating the possibility to gain multiple abilities as you increase the counters using Station, as in Dawnsire, Sunstar Dreadnought:

New token: Lander


Finally, we have a new token subtype: the Lander Token. Like Clues, Food, Maps, and so on, Landers are artifact tokens and have an activated ability: by paying {2}, tapping, and sacrificing the token, you search your deck for a basic land and put it into play tapped.
Several cards in the set create Landers, and they seem extremely useful in Limited, especially for fixing your mana. Remember, even though they're tokens, Landers are permanents—sacrificing them means, for example, that you've met the requirement for a Void ability!
Conclusion
Edge of Eternities brings many new features and exciting mechanics that seek to deepen the design of a world of space exploration and science fiction.
