The Evolution Sage card would be a strong addition to a landfall-themed deck in Magic: the Gathering, especially in a green-based strategy focused on ramping and playing multiple lands per turn. It can help to quickly build up counters on various permanents and players, potentially leading to powerful synergies and board states. While there may be other cards that offer similar effects or better value in certain situations, Evolution Sage's ability to proliferate consistently makes it a solid choice for decks looking to capitalize on landfall triggers and counter manipulation. It should definitely see play in decks that can take advantage of its unique abilities.

Rules

03/19/21

If a permanent has +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters on it, they’re removed in pairs as a state-based action so that the permanent has only one of those kinds of counters on it.

03/19/21

You don’t have to choose every permanent or player that has a counter, only the ones you want to add another counter to. Since “any number” includes zero, you don’t have to choose any permanents at all, and you don’t have to choose any players at all.

05/03/19

If a spell or ability puts counters on a player or permanent and then instructs you to proliferate, choosing that player or permanent will give that player or permanent another of those counters.

05/03/19

The War of the Spark set doesn’t include any ways for players to have counters, but some cards in other sets say that a player “gets” a counter of a certain kind. Notably, emblems aren’t counters.
