About Gideon, the Oathsworn

Gideon, the Oathsworn, Legendary planeswalker — gideon, designed by Kieran Yanner first released in Apr, 2019 in the set War of the Spark. It's currently being selled by the minimum price of 16.88.

This card would be beneficial in a white weenie or aggro deck that focuses on attacking with multiple creatures to trigger its +1/+1 counter ability. However, in competitive play, there are more powerful planeswalkers available such as Gideon Blackblade or Gideon of the Trials which offer more versatile abilities and impact on the game. Gideon, the Oathsworn may not see much play in high-level competitive decks due to its limited impact compared to other options.

A non-Gideon creature is a creature that isn’t also a Gideon planeswalker. For example, Gideon’s Company is a non-Gideon creature.

Gideon’s first loyalty ability causes him to become a creature with the creature type Soldier. He remains a planeswalker with the planeswalker type Gideon. (He also retains any other card types or subtypes he may have had.) Each subtype is correlated to the proper card type: planeswalker is only a type (not a creature type), and Soldier is just a creature type (not a planeswalker type).

Gideon’s first loyalty ability doesn’t count as a creature entering the battlefield. Gideon was already on the battlefield; he only changed his types.
